From Reuters Newswire:

PUNE, India, Feb 13 (Reuters) - At least eight people were killed in a suspected bomb blast at a restaurant popular with foreign tourists in the western Indian city of Pune, police said on Saturday.

If the blast is confirmed to be a bomb, it would be the first major attack in India since the Mumbai attacks in November 2008.

The explosion at German Bakery occurred late in the evening, when the popular bakery was packed with tourists and foreigners.

"There are eight dead and 33 injured in the blast at the German Bakery. It is a suspected bomb blast," Rajendra Sonawane, a joint commissioner of police, told reporters.

It was unclear if any foreigners were killed in the blast. Police said some foreigners had been wounded.

"We heard a big noise and we all rushed out. The impact was so much that there were tiny body parts everywhere," said Vinod Dhale, an employee at the bakery. (Reporting by Rituparna Bhowmik; Editing by Alistair Scrutton)

(Reporting by Rituparna Bhowmik; Editing by Alistair Scrutton)

"When I heard the blast it was like a earthquake tremor," said Santosh Bhosale, a shopkeeper who was nearby at the time.
"We ran to see what happened and saw bodies lying. I didn't think twice and I started to help people to take the injured to hospital.
"I knew the staff members of the bakery. We all have been here for years together now and are extremely fond of each other. This bakery is like our home," he said.
Initial reports of a second bag containing explosives have been discounted.
The German Bakery is in a plush, upmarket area of Pune, close to the Osho Ashram and the Jewish Chabad House.
There was a heavy police presence at the three Pune hospitals where the injured - most of them between 25-30 years old - were taken.
At Jehangir Hospital students gathered in anxious clusters to ask after their friends.

Security fears
Outside the restaurant, a police constable said until now the citizens of Pune had felt safe and not worried about terror attacks.
"One incident is enough to alter the city. Now people will not have peace of mind. How did they manage to attack such a busy place in such an important area? Now after all these deaths it will get difficult. Pune is otherwise a laidback and relaxed city but now one does not know."
But local resident Salil Nishte said he thought security around the bakery had recently decreased.
"We used to come here for a cappuccino and pastries occasionally. In the last few days I had noticed that security was reduced," he said.
"Normally this area is very well protected because of Osho Centre and Chabad House. However, I feel that over years the population of foreigners and important dignitaries has increased, so security should be beefed up adequately at all times so that such incidents do not occur."
In the absence of anyone claiming responsibility for the attack, speculation has focused on Indian Mujahiddin, Jamat ud Dawa and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Questions are also being asked about an alert raised for Pune in October.
Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram has said David Headley, an American facing charges in the US for allegedly scouting targets for the Mumbai attack, had also surveyed Chabad House and Osho Ashram.

The German Bakery, on the ground floor of a corner building in a plush area of Pune, has been reduced to rubble.
The rest of the building is still intact and anti-terrorist squads from Mumbai have gone in to try to determine the type of explosive used in the blast.
The street has been cordoned off and the area is very quiet now.
Whenever I have visited this bakery in the past - last time was a few months ago - it has always been very crowded.
It was a very quaint, old place, the limited seating areas full of students and foreign visitors from the nearby Osho Ashram eating Western food.
A security alert was issued for Chabad House, a Jewish centre for learning in the vicinity of the German Bakery, in October 2009, India's Home Office said.
But the German Bakery was not deemed to be at risk at the time.

On the eve of valentine's day an unexpected blast has rocked the city of Pune. Meanwhile, German Bakery, one of the oldest establishments of the city of Pune which was an equally popular haunt with the young, and the old, Indians as well as resident and visiting foreign nationals is said to have been completely destroyed. The blasts have, indeed, come as an absolute shock to the residents of the city. And German Bakery which had become a symbol of the essence of Koregaon Park, the bohemian section of town, amongst other things will be sorely missed. http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/5222964-blasts-in-pune

Pune Terrorism: Indian Group Now Suspected Posted on February 18th, 2010 by sannyasnews. Bhatkal bros emerge as prime suspects

Pune police wait for the chemical analysis reports to establish which group was responsible for Saturday’s bomb blast in Pune However Riyaz Bhatkal and his brother Iqbal Bhatkal, founder-members of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), have emerged as prime suspects.

Sources said the modus operandi of the blast looks the handiwork of IM led by Riyaz Bhatkal, held responsible for at least 11 blasts across India since 2005. The blasts stopped in 2008 when Mumbai crime branch busted the module and arrested its leading members. ‘‘Bhatkal has been masterminding various blasts since 2005. But it was only after the Mumbai police busted the ring that his and Sadiq Shaikh’s names cropped up. Until then, all investigating agencies had been speculating the hand of Lashkar-e-Taiba,’’ said an officer on condition of anonymity. ‘‘The only difference this time is that they have chosen the place frequented by foreigners to make a big impact like 26/11,’’ an ATS source said.

IM has a strong presence in Pune. ‘‘Many of its members who are at large belong to Pune and adjoining villages; as their base, Pune becomes a soft target,’’ said another source. In 2008, when crime branch arrested 21 IM members, the prime accused, Riyaz Bhatkal, his brother Iqbal Bhatkal, and their associates, Mohammed Ali, Amin, Irfan and Abu Rashid remained at large. Among the 21 arrested, most are well educated and from well-off families. Top among them were the computer engineer Mohammed Mansoor Asgar Peerbhoy and MBBS doctor Anwar Bagwan. During interrogations, the accused revealed that all the operations were carried out under Bhatkal, a small time extortionist in Kurla.

Sources said the Bhatkals were born in Bhatkal village in Mangalore, and grew up in Kurla, Mumbai, where they ran a leather-tanning business. In Kurla, they stayed at Pipe Road, a stone’s throw from the place that once housed the banned organisation SIMI’s head office. It was there that the two brothers became strong SIMI members and ran the office until the Maharashtra government sealed it in 2001.

To escape the police, Riyaz came in contact with Naseer Aydeet, a member of the Fazlu Rehman gang. After the fall of the gang, Riyaz and Naseer decided to start their own gang named RN (R for Riyaz and N for Naseer).

Their names cropped up after the 7/11 blasts, but they had already fled Karnataka. While the two brothers are on the run, their family members are underground, police said. It’s learnt they went to UP where they recruited youth from Azamgarh to send them to Pakistan for training. Bhatkals are accused of hatching conspiracies ranging from recruiting youth, training and selecting targets and even supplying RDX.

The same group was responsible for sending e-mails by hacking into WiFi systems in Sanpada, Chembur and Khalsa College, Sion before the Ahmedabad and Delhi blasts.

So where are all the on-the-scene amateur videos and photos of the post-blast “carnage” at the German Bakery? None to be seen as of yet. Not one.
You would think the people at the Osho Resort (busiest season of the year) on a Saturday night at 7pm, only 200 meters away, would all rush immediately to the scene to give help to the dead and dying, recording the event too with their cell phone cameras and digital cameras. Where are the documents, and Osho sannyasin eye-witnesses? None to be seen or heard from as of yet.
Odd, no?
In this age of digital internet, with cheap and pervasive digital recording products all over the place, these pictures and stories would have been posted online within hours of the event. Mobile wi-fi, laptops, etc. All things upscale yuppie types at the Resort travel with, and have in their shoulder bags and purses.
Only one short month it has been since this supposed terrorist Headley was in the area, with intense international media reportage of it. You would think the area would be on exteremely high alert from all security agencies of India and the world’s government anti-terrorist orgs, looking out for a terrorist event then. And the German Bakery, a public walk-in place with no security, right in the middle of the Osho Resort and Jewish Chabad House would be the place that would be a super-soft easy target, if that was someone’s intention to do harm, targeting foreigners, Westerners, Jews, Osho sannysasin pagans, etc.
No security? Someone just walks in an leaves an unattended bag? And some dumb waiter just opens it up and the place blows up? Does anyone here really believe this story?

By the way, talking about this Headley dude…
Years ago, according to his Wiki bio, he was arrested for trying to smuggle heroin into the US. Given a reduced sentence in exchange for him performing undercover anti-drug operations in Pakistan for the US Drug Enforcement Agency.
So many people have accused Headley of being a CIA operative, in fact, that a CIA spokesman had to come out and given a resounding “No way!” statement publicly. Now, would you believe a CIA PR spokeperson? Right, neither would I.
How’s that for a weird wrinkle in the story?

David Headley was visiting Osho resort in 2009 or 2008. His 2 day visit to Osho Resort was made public in October 2009. Now you have terror at German Bakery.
My questions: why did Jayesh not install extra security at the Osho resort after October 09? Some sannyasins were badly hurt and lost legs…

oshobob
ok, Anand, so it’s been more than a month since Headley was reportedly in the area, if he was there March 09, but still, Koregaon Park around the Resort should have still been top priority for anti-terrorist agencies, only 11 months after his scouting activities…
get the spelling right anand, it’s “Dolano”, not “Dolana”, and she’s the ex-’swan-lady’, not the swan lady. That was the past.
and “nobody got hurt who was at the White Robe”…man, that’s a relief, huh? none of the ‘family’ got hurt, oh…how reassuring for us all! Moral of the story, don’t go see rogue woman “zen masters” outside the system…. stay at home, safe, in the Resort, at White Robe Meditation, and you should be all right, with Osho and sannyasins…the Chosen Ones! Smile
Do you think all those “meditators” in the Pyramid didn’t hear the massive explosion just 200 meters away? And maybe want to do something, go and see what happened? Or does “meditation” mean you
ignore the world around you? If someone was screaming that they were being raped outside, would the thousands in the Pyramid just sit there like dead Buddhas and continue to “meditate” ? How spiritual!! How devoted to the inner search!!
What about the security and entrance people at the Gateless Gate? What did they do after the explosion? Just sit there and hold down their job positions?!

Another interesting fact about Headley is that he was born in Washington DC, seat of the US Government, and his father worked for Voice of America, a US global government propoganda organization, and, as is well known, the VOA is basically a front face-icon for the CIA. Kind of like the Peace Corps, but more far reaching.
But who knows, maybe this guy is just virtual, doesn’t really exist as a person, his bio created by who knows who…
I would be interested to hear Ma Sadhana’s account of him, if she has any. Did he do Osho meditations at the Resort? Or just walk around, and relax…? Did anyone in management or other in-house sannyasins talk to him, or relate to him in any way?

Anand
Oshobob, I think you have never been to Pune and been in the meditation pyramid, otherwise your words make no sense. So why are you commenting here about these places? The explosion was during the time when there is music on during the Evening meditation…as far as I am informed and I talked to people there and have actually been in the pyramid meditating for man years, nobody could hear it as an attack.
And what were the guards supposed to do? Leave the gates unguarded?
Indian police was there at the scene within minutes the hospital is only 250 yards away…
I ask myself really what is the purpose of this ignorant and stupid shoutings of mindless and uninformed stuff at sannyas news?
If you guys are frustrated with Osho and how sannyas is now functioning, why you bother and spend time here? This is the most negative Osho forum I came across…

Oshobob..yes I know Dolano the EX swan lady from Pune. I lived in Pune from 1975 through to now every year including Rajneeshpuram.
yes I care for family first, but that does not mean that I feel not for the people, who died at the German bakery, whatever nation they belong too. And Nadia seems like a beautiful Italian woman, it does not matter if she was an Osho sannyasin or a Dolano follower. Let everybody be happy on their own ground.
Ther German Bakery was a mixed up place with drug dealing peddling their stuff, Indians trying to make some buck from Westerner or picking up a Western date, renting rooms…..there was a lot of dark energy in there, not unexpected, just 200 yards away from Osho main gate.
You would never see the management from Osho Resort see in there…too many shady characters moving around.
Light attracts darkness and darkness attracts light.

oshobob
anand asks, “And what were the guards supposed to do? Leave the gates unguarded?”
My god no!! And let a couple people sneak in without paying? When about 100 human beings are dead and injured, people screaming, just a bit down the block from a massive explosion? No, anand, we would not expect the resort guards to leave their posts to lend a helping hand to bombed and bleeding human beings for chrissake. I don’t know what i was thinking there.

Anand
I talked to friends via skype minutes after the explosion …I talked to the ashram guard minutes after the explosion via phone…. there was professional help needed and available within minutes…the hospital is only 250 yards away from the German Bakery…..body parts were on the streets…there were sirens in the air, people screaming….
Hug to Prem Bubbie….we are all Buddhas.

A delicious dream to rebuild a bakery (Мечты о перестройке German Bakery).
Parag Rabade, Pune, Feb 17, DH News Service : (Интервью с владелицей этого ресторана).

Image Ten years ago, Smita Kharose lost her husband who had established the famed German Bakery near Osho Commune. Last Saturday, there was yet another death – of the bakery itself. After the devastating blast, the bakery is a shell of charred bricks.

“I was stunned when I heard of the blast. I could not believe it. Then I took my two daughters and rushed there in a car. But can you imagine the police would not let us go near the bakery? I told them I am the owner but they simply would not listen, although politicians were trickling one by one and going inside,” a devastated Kharose, the proprietor of the bakery, told Deccan Herald.
The detritus are testimony to the horror of terrorism. Although North Road, on which the bakery is located, has been reopened to traffic, four days back the stretch was the site of carnage caused by the blasts. Smita hails from Mumbai. She married Dnyaneshwar Kharose in 1989 and settled here. At that time, her husband ran a cigarette store outside Osho Commune which thrived and throbbed with activities and discourses of spiritual guru Rajneesh.
One of his disciples was a German national Klaus Woody Gutzeit, who was a frequent visitor and would always be in search of continental snacks that suited his palate. He goaded Dnyaneshwar to start a bakery and so it came into existence in April 1989.
Woody helped start a similar bakery on Goa’s Anjuna beach. Having coaxed Dnyaneshwar to turn enterprising, Woody left for the Himalayas. He returns here only occasionally.
Woody not only supported the venture, he also taught the Kharose couple to bake bread, a variety of cakes and less spicy delicacies. The bakery became an instant hit with foreigners visiting the Ashram. Customers would throng the bakery, occupying the tables drinking coffee all day long.
When Dnyaneshwar passed away in 1999, Smita (39), with two daughters and a son, was forced to take charge of the business. Without any degree or diploma in hotel or restaurant management, or without any business background, Smita plunged into the bakery business and for the past ten years has been managing it well.
While she struggled to set the business in order, another tragedy struck the family. Her only son, Aditya (11), was diagnosed with cancer. Undaunted, Smita took her son’s illness in her stride. The bakery was her only source of income and she would ensure that it remained popular. “I could visit the bakery only on Monday with the police permission. It was shocking. Was it the same place which I owned? It was beyond recognition,” Smita said.
The bakery is located opposite the Jews’ Chhabad House, and is very close to the Osho Commune, which are heavily guarded after repeated terror warnings. The bakery was the soft target. The estimated loss at the bakery could be anywhere between Rs 35 and Rs 40 lakh and the insurance company has already been notified. “I feel sorry for the loss of lives. There were so many youngsters among the dead. The bakery lost a waiter,” she said. “The government has not provided us any help. It is surprising that we have suffered the loss along with others, but we have not received any financial aid,” Smita complained.
But with or without any aid, Smita and her daughters are determined to rebuild the bakery and put in back in business. “The incident is shocking, but we are resolved to rebuild the bakery,” Smita said.

Don't speak to the injured: Pune police chief
Pune The city police have issued a stern warning to media personnel against trying to gain access to those injured in the German Bakery blast in Pune, citing national interest, and said in case of violation, they ‘will have to face it’.
Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh asked media personnel not to interact with any of those injured being treated in hospitals saying, "It is absolutely against national interest. It might create problem in investigations. We have requested all hospitals not to allow this. So this is my request and don't do this. "Not only I am requesting, as a police officer, I am directing you. This is an official direction to all of you and if anybody does not follow it, he or she will have to face it."
Singh refused to answer any questions on Pune police's action to avoid the attack despite intelligence inputs. He said all nine persons killed in the incident have been identified. And among the 60 people injured, 46 are males and the rest females, Singh said adding that 12 of the injured persons are foreigners. Among the 12 foreigners, five are from Iran, two are Sudanese, two Nepalese, one each from Yemen, Taiwan and Germany, he told reporters at a press conference. So far, 19 injured have been discharged and 41 are still in hospital, he said, adding that no one has been detained or arrested in connection with the incident.

Osho Resort Update after Blast.

Mobiles, bags barred from Osho Resort

As part of what are called “fresh security measures” in the wake of the Pune bombing, that has now claimed 11 lives and injured many more, mobile telephones and bags are now banned from the Osho Resort in Koregoan Park.
Reports however indicate that the terror attack on the German Bakery just down the road from the Resort has not affected the normal buzz at the Ashram/Resort. Many disciples of Osho both westerners and Indians are continuing to use the Resort during this the peak season, which usually ends in March when the weather hots up too much for most foreign visitors.
There are increased security guidelines enforced by the Indian authorities. Commandos armed with sophisticated weapons stand guard at the main gate.
Bags are now also checked assiduously at the “Gateless Gate”. Mobile telephones cannot be taken into Buddha Hall, where most meditations take place during the day and in the evening.
To reach the Osho resort from the Main North Road, people now have to take a long detour because a part of this road has been blocked by the security forces.
Indian security personnel are also checking all flats in the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, a range of Indian sannyasins have urged the Indian government to protect all Osho centres in the sub-continent.
One spokesperson said:
‘It is something really terrible and very shocking that innocent people lost their lives at the German Bakery, which was always frequented by international tourists. It was a heinous act of terrorism.”
‘It is unfortunate that the terrorists could strike near a place known for spirituality, meditation and peace.
‘Osho disciples and centres request the immediate action of the Indian government to take all necessary measures to provide for total security of the ashram,’ the statement said.
Other Osho meditation centres in India are also located in Dharamshala, Dehradun, Shimla, Indore, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pondicherry, Karnal (Haryana), Bhimtal (Uttarakhand), Rishikesh, Guwahati, Amritsar and Chandigarh.

Life at Resort will never be the same after german backery blast . I have heard from two diffrent sources that security is tight and visitors are not happy about it and many want to leave soon . Indain government is never going to protect its normal citizens or osho lovers and visitors because government is very corrupt.
symtoms are telling me that resort will move out of pune , or perheps out of india in future .
i remmber in oregaon something like that happened inside gambling house in rajneesh puram , there was blast and after that next month osho left america and sannyasins start to move back to their orginal country and same might happened here in pune .
it is hard to celebrate and meditate in this kind of fearful atmosphere . people will find alternate places like goa where they do not have go via security checks and other stuff……..it will be very hard for resort to keep up with security because resort has more 5 gates and each gate is crossed many times by same people.
government wll help now, but not forever, sooner or later they will leave , and resort has to take care and this years you will see least visitors, it will be hard to maintain resort if you have less than 200 visitor a day because it cost so much to run resort these days
any way i wish everyone good tme and try to post their comment

Terror Strikes India; Bombing Kills 8, More than 32 Injured February 13, 2010 2:11 p.m. EST
Nilanjana Bhowmick - AHN India Correspondent

New Delhi, India (AHN) - India is on a high security alert after a bomb blast rocked the western Indian city of Pune on Saturday evening.
The bomb went off at around 7 pm local time (, killing 8 people, including a foreigner. More than 45 people were injured in the blast.
The bomb went off near a cafe near Osho Ashram, a popular meditation center frequented by foreigners.
Although initial reports suggested that a cylinder had burst in the cafe causing the blast, later the home secretary, G.K. Pillai confirmed that the blast was triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
"It's most probably a terror attack. We are sending a forensic team of CBI and personnel of National Investigative Agency (NIA)", Pillai said in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the government sent out an advisory to all state capitals asking people not to touch unclaimed objects.
The advisory has also asked people to inform their nearest police station if any suspicious objects were found, a home ministry spokesman said in New Delhi.
Pillai also told reporters in New Delhi that suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist David Coleman Headley had surveyed the Osho ashram area, lying just 200 yards from the scene of the blast.

Restaurant frequented by foreigners
Parwinder Sandhu | Pune

With 22 years of impeccable service in terms of delectable cuisine, German Bakery, situated in Koregaon Park, had indeed become an important landmark of the city.
With more of foreign tourists flocking the bakery as compared to Indian counterparts, the bakery had become a household name internationally. Likewise, it had also become a very prone target for any kind of terror attack, especially targeting the foreign nationals.
Located near the famous Osho Ashram and a Jewish prayer house, Chabad House, the bakery was often seen crowded by foreign nationals mostly those coming to the Osho Ashram. The bakery is usually jampacked during mornings and evenings.
The Saturday's suspected terror attack, in which eight foreign nationals, including four women, were killed while nearly 40 grievously injured, had once again raised a question mark over the security of those visiting the country.
The attack once again reminds of 26/11 in Mumbai where the Jewish centre, Nariman House, was attacked by the Pakistan-backed terrorists.
The Koregaon Park area, where the bakery was located, is considered to be the most posh locality of the city. Apart from being a popular tourist hangout, a large number of foreign nationals have taken rented accommodations in the area, including some students. Even though the police has maintained a tight vigil in the area post-Mumbai attacks, the area is still gullible as a large number of hawkers and migrants are seen moving freely in the area. Even though the Pune Police has opted to remain tightlipped about the entire incident, sources still maintain that the attack was aimed at the foreign nationals only.
The investigating agencies are also trying to work out a possible link between the Saturday's attack, which is first of its kind in the city, with the visit of American terror suspect David Headley who had twice visited the Osho Ashram in 2008-2009.
According to the NIA investigations, Headley had moved to Pune to recce the area around Koregaon Park. Though initially it was believed that he wanted to target the foreigners coming to the Osho Ashram, later it was found that he had scouted the area for targeting the Jewish prayer centre. Headley's last visit to India before being arrested by the FBI was in March last year, to finalise synchronised terror strikes on Jewish houses located in five cities at the instance of Lashker-e-Taiba.

At least 9 dead in blast at India bakery popular with tourists
By Rama Lakshmi and Emily Wax
Washington Post Foreign Service
Sunday, February 14, 2010

NEW DELHI - A powerful blast at a popular bakery frequented by tourists killed at least nine people and injured 53 in the western Indian city of Pune on Saturday, the first attack to apparently target foreigners since the deadly 2008 siege of Mumbai.
The explosion took place a little after 7 p.m. at the German Bakery in Koregaon Park, an upscale Pune neighborhood near the Osho Ashram. The ashram, a spiritual center with many Western followers, was one of the locations canvassed as a potential target by David Coleman Headley, who is now on trial in Chicago on charges of plotting terrorist acts.
Headley had reportedly stayed in a hotel near the ashram.
Eyewitnesses told reporters on the scene that there was an unidentified bag at the bakery, which is also near a Chabad House, an Orthodox Jewish outreach center similar to the one targeted in the Mumbai siege.
"We could hear the blast. Thank God we are fine," Rabbi Betzalel Kupchik of Chabad said in a telephone interview, adding that a group at the center felt the explosion just after gathering for prayer to mark the end of the Sabbath. "We will continue our work here. We can't back down."
Federal Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said that one foreigner was among the dead and that investigators are trying to determine the nationalities of all the victims. Pillai said that the explosion was likely an act of terrorism and said a team from the National Investigation Agency was en route.
Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh put the death toll at nine, according to the Press Trust of India.
The bombing came a day after Pakistan agreed to resume high-level talks with India, the first such dialogue between the nuclear-armed powers since relations were frozen after the Mumbai massacre. The United States has urged the two nations to restart talks in hopes that improved relations will help stabilize the region, especially in Afghanistan, where India and Pakistan have been competing for influence.
In 2008, a wave of bombings struck markets in Indian cities, killing more than 100 people. Police blamed most of those attacks on homegrown Muslim militants, although some Hindu militants were also suspected of carrying out several attacks. India blames a Pakistan-based militant group for the Mumbai attacks.
Shahzad Ahmad, a suspect in bombings in New Delhi that year who was arrested last week, had reportedly told Delhi police that a cell of the Islamist group Indian Mujaheddin was operating in Pune, according to an intelligence official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
"Ahmad said that the group wanted to sabotage India's hosting of the Commonwealth Games. By targeting foreigners, they want to create an environment of fear," the official said.
Pune, which is about 60 miles southeast of Mumbai, is a leafy cosmopolitan city known for its corporate office parks and outsourcing campuses for software and call-center services.
Suresh Kalmadi, a member of parliament from Pune, said in a phone interview that the German Bakery was a very old establishment. "All the foreigners keep going there all the time," he said. "I am just appealing to the citizens to remain alert, but calm."
Srikant Hiwale, 70, a Pune resident also reached by phone, said that at first the blast sounded like firecrackers at a marriage procession. "Then a relative called me and asked me to turn on the TV," he said. "I feel very scared now. No security. Pune is supposed to be a very peaceful, calm area."
Television footage showed a crater-sized hole at the front of the bakery, where the blast had knocked off the roof and shattered windows in nearby shops. Local media reports said the explosion may have detonated several nearby gas cylinders, amplifying the damage.
The bombing was unlikely to affect the talks between India and Pakistan scheduled for Feb. 25, said Vikram Sood, a former head of the Research and Analysis Wing, the Indian intelligence agency also known as RAW.
"The talks are likely to go on," Sood said. "Terrorism is something India has to live with."

Osho disciples seek protection for Pune ashram
February 17th, 2010 - 7:40 pm ICT by IANS

New Delhi, Feb 17 (IANS) Osho centres across the country have asked for special protection to their Pune ashram, a popular spiritual heritage site that attracts a lot of foreign visitors, in the wake of last week’s terror blast in that city.
The Feb 13 blast that shattered the German Bakery in Koregaon Park area in Pune, claiming 12 lives and injuring nearly 60, is located close to the Osho Ashram. Among the victims was Nadia Materinia, a 37-year-old Italian who was an Osho disciple.
“On behalf of all Osho sanyasins and Osho Centers, we appeal to the government of India to protect the popular spiritual heritage site of India, the Osho Ashram, that houses the samadhi of Osho, the enlightened mystic of modern times,” a statement said Wednesday.
“Media reports say the ashram, a spiritual centre, was one of the locations canvassed as a potential target by David Coleman Headley, who is now on trial in Chicago on charges of plotting terrorist attacks. Headley had reportedly stayed in a hotel near the ashram,” it said.
The statement, on behalf of 25 Osho centres in India and abroad and the Osho World Foundation in Delhi, said: “It is a matter of great concern for all disciples and seekers because of the terror threat that looms large for the ashram and that the ashram is on the target radar of the terrorists”.
“Millions of Osho lovers around the world wish to see the ashram safe and secure, and do not want anything untoward happening. Therefore, we request the immediate action of government of India to take all necessary measures to provide for total security of the ashram and help this place be fully secure for the spiritual seekers,” it added.

Original German Baker sees Devastation
Posted on March 4th, 2010 by sannyasnews
http://www.sannyasnews.org/latest/archives/528
Transcend Terror argues the founder of the German Bakery

Klaus Gutzeit started the original German Bakery many years ago in Pune, at the suggestion and request of some of his sannyasin friends, who sure knew he could bake from previous times in Goa! The news of the blast on Feb 14th in Pune reached Klaus in the calm of the hills of Himachal Pradesh. Despite now being 64-years-old he immediately packed his bags and set off for Pune.
“I was shocked and it was important for me to be there,” said the nomadic German. “On the first day we opened the German bakery years ago in Pune when Osho was alive, there was a mad rush. After that we have never looked back,” he recalled.
“I thought it would help them a little on seeing me, being with them in their moment of grief…also I thought I should give them my support,” said Gutzeit, who is now in Goa, the place where he learnt he had it in him to be a successful baker. He was shocked by the devastation he saw but says terrorism can’t be allowed to win. “When I think about it, I’m filled with anger and sorrow. But we have to live with it and look forward with optimism. We can’t let terrorism win, the human will is much stronger than that,” he said.
The Bakery is now run by a local family, the Kharoses, but Gutzeit got to meet his old Nepalese friend Gopal, who has been in the bakery for 20 years. “I gave him my moral support. I am too old now to be of any real help to him,” said Gutzeit, lovingly called Woody by his friends. “I hope there will be a new German Bakery soon. There is so much moral support and demand for it.”
Woody, a school drop-out, who describes himself as a “simple traveller, doing writing, painting, and photography”, arrived in India in 1970 at the end of a road trip that took him one and half years. He never left.

Was Resort Reaction to Terrorist Attack hard-hearted?
Posted on March 13th, 2010 by sannyasnews

Dear Reader of Sannyas News,
Underneath you find an open letter to the newspapers (today 12th of March) about the attitude of the management team of the Osho Resort in response to what happened after the German Bakery terrorist blast (tomorrow it is now exactly one month ago).
Warm regards,
Drs. Michiel Dorenbosch (Vigyano), Netherlands
http://www.sannyasnews.org/latest/archives/534

OPEN LETTER:

Osho Resort: much hugging but where is the heart

Just one month after the German Bakery blast, as a witness of what happened there it was heartbreaking to read that the numbers of killed kept growing for so many days. Gladly there were also sparks for pride. For example - because of all those including sannyasins who risked their lives to help the injured of the blast to nearby hospitals (knowing there might be a second blast). Two, pride because of the doctors and nurses and all others, some sannyasins, who helped tending the injured and those who died.

At the same time I got more and more shocked about the way the management of the Osho Resort reacted to all this. Still they haven’t shown any sign of compassion or tribute to the grief of so many. The only public statements made were about their own interests and safety. In contrast to many others there was no warmth, no compassion, not even a minute of silence to give space to what happened outside.

It becomes even worse. An Italian sannyasin who asked on the evening of the blast to turn down the disco music to inform the crowd about the disaster that was happening, was expelled from the resort on the authority of the Chairman on the grounds of “violating the rules”. There is so much hugging in this resort, but I wonder where is the heart when it really matters? .

A member of the Resort Board when asked about this, answered: “What is it about? … It is a little café on the corner which was hit because it was not protected. Well, we were not hit as resort because we were well protected.” And a comparable attitude came across from another board member, the former physician of Osho, when questioned about the administrative systems of the resort. A Taiwanese sannyasin badly injured in the blast explicitly asked us to call his wife at home. That night the reply at the resort-gate was: “We won’t interrupt the video of Osho or disturb the White Robe meditation for this” According to the physician, the next day, there hadn’t been any hurry to that call because at that moment it was in the middle of the night in Taiwan. “We are not going to phone Granny when a bomb explodes” he stated.

As a sannyasin I am ashamed about this team (“the inner circle”). Are these the men and women, “the chosen few”, to guard Osho’s heritage? Not able to share emotions and grieve when it happens in the real world, just along the road, but outside of their world of courses, trainings and meditations?

Looking back it may be less astonishing to some. I understand, the Chairman, the Canadian Jayesh (Michael) O’Byrne, never appeared in public during the 20 years he is in this position to be a leader. Is he and his crew capable at all, to stand for the love and all the other things that visitors, sannyasins and workers invest in this resort?

I feel ashamed to see this team, self locked and lame when normal human emotions are called for. An inner circle which seemingly forgets that the resort is a guest in this young and proud nation of India, and whose people are so hit and disturbed by this terrible event.

That’s maybe why I feel the urge to apologize publicly on behalf of this “Inner circle”, the caretakers of Osho’s heritage, who apparently get lost in their businesses, personal fights and interests, meanwhile loosing the most precious thing they had…their heart. The only thing that really can keep this heritage alive, spiritual, humane and even economical.

I think this team has to learn again and freshen up its ranks. If not, this story will end up by itself. Probably as an empty heavily armed fortress, an unsafe place to be, physically, and not only that, an unsafe place for the soul also.

Very interesting review of an event that truly does seem “ambiguous” in its relationship to Osho–atleast from what the resort wants everyone to believe. As far as I know the German Bakery is as much part of the Osho commune and movement as the gateless gate.

What a bitter paradox and state of confusion that chides every sannyasin from the actions of the “managament team”. From the descriptions above, they have become completely narcisistic and are breeding an “osho” movement of superficial qualities.

Although the resort looks beautiful from the outside–these stories make it look like a beautiful cemeterary full of dead bodies. Dance and love are both synonomous with compassion–so I’m happy to see that there were “some” sannyasins that weren’t disconnected.

The old doc dissappoints…every story about him reveals some sort of wedge stuck in between his but cheeks…Sounds like an imperialist english guy with an arrogant snarl preaching dead zen.

and for all those fools who pretend to be rebellious on sannyas news but can’t find the integrity to identify themselves shouldn’t deserve a comment–for or against. If the impact of the resort is a fear-oriented sannyas, whats the difference between Sannyasins and christians whom are God Fearing.

For 36 years Osho sannyasins have taken camp in the Koregaon Park neighborhood of Pune. We have bought properties and celebrated our lifestyle openly there. We never thought about the neighbors there, but ‘did our thing’….Osho Dynamic Meditation for years in the open and very loud, Techno parties and celebrating our lifestyle quite open in the streets between North Mail Road and 8th lane and beyond.

Our Indian neighbors made the best out of it and created a lot of service oriented businesses around Nr. 17 KP.

The terrorism attack on German Bakery was actually a great opportunity to reach out to community. Any signal from inside the ashram gates could have really been sending a signal on the national Indian stage. Instead Jayesh flew back to London and a fortress was created.

Another beautiful opportunity wasted. Even a silent walk around Koreagon Park after the Evening Meditation would have shown, that we as people have a heart - and that would have been aired on National Indian TV.

Lots of people died there and lost legs etc. Young Indian people 100 yards away from the Main Gate.

Every body shows lip sympathy, every body makes one minute silence at the time of collective tragedies, everybody contributes some money as a help, but world still remain the same. So we don´t do anything like this. What we do then?

Simple.
We mediate,
we meditate,
we meditate

and through this we create itching feeling in God, sorry in existance, so that He takes care of the earth. And He is doing it.
Look before there were only casettes, since we are meditating, we have CD´s, Mp3 players, I pod, soon there will be i Pad and if we go on meditating, time is not far away for I Tampons.

For millenniuim everybody is making babies ususal way, we being the hyper intelligent disciples of a great master has the responsibiulty to be different.
So we make babies through the deep throat, and second project is to create better human spices, through the Rose Bud.

I wonder when we will realise that there are few acepted social norms irrespective of the meditativeness or non meditativeness.

How many times we have heard HIm saying about interconnectedness, far away stars are related with the grass blades.
Was Osho just giving poetic recital for the entertainment?

I was in German Bakery few weeks before the blast happened.
I am just feeling grateful I was at the right place at the right time and hope that continues.

Many people I know, got angry about why the evening disco continued and got angry about how the resort get managed and angry about all the other things like no statements, no death celebration and so on.

I did a page on my otoons.com site about Nadia, the Italian woman who died, and immediately I got a very angry email from some personal friend and family friend to immediately take it down otherwise she would had sued me to me that is the same anger of the bomber.

Vigyano, I do feel my pain, I do feel the pain of the world, the pain of others and trough that pain I feel the love for people and the love for Osho.
I go and scream and feel my pain at the resort every winter when I staff the Path of Love Seminar.
I do it in my meditations only, we call them ‘burns’.
There I scream and rage out all the stuff I have personally with people, with places, with situations, with God and I cry my sweet tears of longing, and then I can feel the love, clean and crisp.
From that space the staff can help and support the partecipants going trough whatever they need to go trough to open up.

why has life given us the possibility to scream, to feel the pain of others and the possibility to share and love each other?

that is exactly the path I have taken with the path of love.

I felt like sharing this other site I saw around Osho
to explain a bit the response of the resort ….
Am sure they where also in shock.

I was not there, I just read here and there,.
but probably I would had done the same,
stay out of it, although from the outside looks a bit heartless
do the practical what needs to be done to protect the place
keep the meditation and whatever programs is happening going
and move on

KATH
Here my thoughts. After reading the News in the Indian Press.
It looks like this people there have no compassion , no heart –a Zombie like state.
Now that’s what it looks from the Outside.
It’s us now , but there is a tendency to think we know more about life than others . It really
reflexes in the Press as arrogance not to express some kindness. Or do we think because we did
some groups and things we are so much more awake than others ? Come on , be real –have a heart !
Do you really think the Management is so aware that it does not move them anymore? What’s about YOU ? So, good but what’s about the
folks who are not . Folks who read the Press ? Would a simple word of kindness to the Press take away anything from your greatness ?
Is it really true that the outside world does not touch you ?
I find it important to continue to expand . Truth is the Outside world does exist and in fact there are a lot of beautiful open
awakened people out there. So, all I ask is to please consider to stay open to people who may have opened to a lot more than we have.
Yes, that’s right- they are out there but it seems to me the management pushes exactly this people away and they may feel that the Resort management is too attached with
old rules and quotes and how Osho would have acted. Open up your hearts and minds and try to completely let go of what you think you know about anything. This are all old
structures , call them Osho’s guidance . We are much more than that — well, we could be. But if we go on like this, it looks like we simply follow a new Religion and we try to follow whatever rule to fit in .
Be fearless , Kath

Nobody is against Jayesh and Amrito as such. In Osho´s structure, they are two most important people.
Just say they are like the Tits of Liz Hurley, the most prominent parts on display, the foundation of His empire.
But the question will arise when these tits of Liz Hurley start claiming to be the wholesale in charge of the whole person.
Thousands others were also being nurtured by Osho´s direct presence, thousands others have also given their life long commitment to His call.
These people are equally important and Vital, to choose 20 people from different countries and expertise, and give them a equal responsibility to take care of day to day functioning.
When one thinks only about TITS and not the whole body what to say about being, than it is good to remember the bust on the display windows of super stores, exhibiting products from “Triumph”...

... The only public statements made were about their own interests and safety. In contrast to many others there was no warmth, no compassion, not even a minute of silence to give space to what happened outside. ...

"A member of the Resort Board when asked about this, answered: “What is it about? … It is a little café on the corner which was hit because it was not protected - Это маленькое кафе на углу, которое пострадало, потому что не было как следует защищено.

An Italian sannyasin who asked on the evening of the blast to turn down the disco music to inform the crowd about the disaster that was happening, was expelled from the resort on the authority of the Chairman on the grounds of “violating the rules”. There is so much hugging in this resort, but I wonder where is the heart when it really matters? ...

Young Indian people 100 yards away from the Main Gate.

Lakshmi написал(а):

Rolling Eyes

Cool
